Astral Travel And Dream Travel
Dream travel and astral travel are not one in the same but they can use similar processes. Dream travel primarily deals with understanding and entering the subconscious, whereas, astral travel has limitless possibilities and realms in which to enter. Relaxation, meditation and finding an “anchor” are methods that can be used in either dream or astral travel. We will cover the very basics of these processes here.

Relaxation & Staying Aware
You enter a semi-version of astral projection when sleeping. Sleep states are when the subconscious gets to truly flourish. The subconscious is relegated to mere intuition during the waking state, but gets free reign during sleep; however, the subconscious is limited to the mind. It is only one aspect of our being but it is a pure and deeply honest one, which puts it that much closer to being a version of our true soul. It is crucial while pursuing astral travel that you do not fall into a deep sleep and enter into the limit realm of the subconscious, but it is also helpful that you have explored your subconscious prior to attempting astral projection.
In order to enter into a relaxed state without sleeping, it is important that the body is warm. Yoga can be particularly helpful for relaxing the body prior to attempting to astrally project. Yoga movements release tension throughout the body that can secretly be wreaking havoc on your mind. Yoga also warms the muscles and creates an active body that is ready to enter a relaxed state of meditation. Some sort of prior exercise can greatly improve your chances of staying conscious during an astral projection; however, don’t do anything too intense which can stimulate the mind too much.

Meditation

Most people find that they wish to move beyond meditation and into a higher state of consciousness. If you feel drawn to this concept then you are on the right path. Here are some basic, beginner meditations that can help you advance your meditations into astral or subconscious planes.
Astral Projection Meditation: A meditation that works well for beginner astral travel is to lay or sit in a comfortable position and to focus all of your consciousness around your third eye. Envision your third eye opening and allow it to receive the input from the room around you. You may actually feel as though you are opening your eyes doing this meditation but you are not. Allow yourself to receive the room. Once you have a good vision of the room, feel yourself moving out through your eye into the room above you. You may only allow yourself to leave only so far. You may feel the room move in and out of focus. This will become easier as you do this meditation more regularly. When starting off with astral projection, your goal is to move out of your body, if only so far. Further projection can be achieved but getting past this initial barrier can be tough.

Lucid or Dream Travel Meditation
In this meditation, you want to establish an anchor. An anchor is an item on your person or an object that you regularly come into contact with that you can use to bring awareness into your subconscious state. For example, a commonly used anchor is a doorway. How this works is that during your daily routine, you touch every doorway you go through and silently ask yourself: Am I awake or am I dreaming?
Eventually, this habit will find its way into your dreams and you will discover that you are indeed in a dream! Once awareness has been brought to the dream, you will find that you have control over your dream state. The travel from there is up to your own imagination!
Contrary to astral projection, you do not wish to exercise before attempting lucid dreaming or dream travel. A regular yoga practice or daily exercise can certainly help you enter a sleep state faster and allow you to sleep better but it should be done several hours prior to sleeping. Best of luck to you and happy traveling!
